Tony Hinnigan Bio

tony hinnigan - cello flute and indigenous Andean wind instrumentsTony was born in Glasgow and received the majority of his musical education at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, studying the cello with legendary player/teacher William Pleeth and theory with Buxton Orr.

Whilst playing with Ballet Rambert, he co-founded, with Mike Taylor, the band “Incantation“.

In addition to the release of many albums he and Mike have played on over 30 films, including “Avatar”, “Titanic”, “Braveheart” and “The Mission”.

Tony continues to play on sessions for TV, radio and films and is busy as an orchestrator, together with playing the cello in the Michael Nyman Band, of which he has been a member for 25 years. He has made many recordings with Michael Nyman, including his 1st three string quartets, for Decca, as a member of the Balanescu Quartet.
